Pay and schedule
Monthly gross pay
Annual gross pay divided by 12. This is an average across the calendar year.
Formula and example
Monthly gross pay = hourly rate × weekly hours × paid weeks ÷ 12. At $25/hour, 40 hours and 52 paid weeks, annual pay is $52,000; monthly average pay is $4,333.33. At 20 hours with 50 paid weeks it is $2,083.33.
Biweekly means 26 payments; semimonthly means 24. Actual payroll calendars may have a 27th biweekly payment. Taxes, overtime, benefits and unpaid weeks can change individual paychecks.
How do I convert hourly pay to average monthly salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by weekly hours and paid weeks in the year, then divide by 12. At $25 per hour, 40 hours and 52 weeks, the average is $4,333.33 gross per month.
Is average monthly salary the same as a monthly paycheck?
Not necessarily. Dividing annual earnings by 12 gives a calendar-month average. Your employer may pay weekly, biweekly or semimonthly, so individual paychecks can differ.
What if I take two unpaid weeks?
At $25 per hour for 40 hours and 50 paid weeks, annual gross earnings are $50,000. Dividing by 12 gives about $4,166.67 in average monthly gross pay.
Does the monthly calculator show take-home salary?
No. It estimates gross earnings before federal and state taxes, payroll taxes, benefits and other deductions. Use a supported paycheck calculator for a separate withholding estimate.
