Illinois Minimum Wage in 2026
The state standard rate is $15.00 per hour; worker and local exceptions can apply.
Effective 2025-01-01. Official sources checked October 26, 2026.
Coverage and exceptions
State adult rate. Youths under 18 working fewer than 650 hours in a calendar year have a $13 state rate. Learner and other licensed exceptions exist. Chicago and other applicable local rules can require higher wages or different tip credits; this page does not select a local rate.
Federal and state interaction
When both laws apply, the employee is entitled to the higher applicable minimum. Check industry, age and local rules before using the standard statewide figure. A tip credit does not remove the employer’s obligation to ensure wages and tips meet the applicable minimum.
Gross earnings example
At $15.00 × 40 hours × 52 paid weeks, annual gross earnings are $31,200 before tax. This assumes no overtime or unpaid leave.
